THE SIDNEY ARGUS - HERALD. April 193l. "Riverton News".--The closing chapter in the afternoon of life of Morris Smith was quietly and peacefully ended Wednesday, April 15, at Nicholas Senn Hospital in Omaha, where skilled physicians, nurses, and his wife had given of their best to alleviate pain and suffering.

Morris Smith, son of Coleman and Grazilla Smith, was born at Shamokin, Pennsylvania, December 11, l852. A brother, I.S. Smith, an attorney at Greeley, Colorado, is the only surviving member of the family; Mrs. Ursula Yordy, Mrs. Susan Lovelady, Isabel, Emanuel and Ezra, wtih the parents, are deceased.

Mr. Smith was a man who thought much of home ties, the devotion which he gave to his parents during their long years of life's highway was very beautiful. The presence of this upright and loyal citizen who had dwelt more than 70 years in the same locality will be missed beyond expression of mere words.

He enjoyed the experience of being a real pioneer, having come to Fremont county in 1859, all the way by boat from Pittsburgh. He watched the development of the Burlington railroad, saw the town of Riverton grow from prairie and cornfield into its present state. He was interested in all church and social activites of the town, or anything that was for the uplift of the community.

On October 12, 1921, he was united in marriage to Miss Fanny Moore of Rockport, Missouri, who survives him.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Riverton at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, conducted by Rev. O.E. Douglas and Rev. H. P. Grinyer. "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "Lead Kindly Light"--two of Mr. Smith's favorite hymns--were rendered by Mrs. Earl Cowden and Mrs. William Stubbs, with Mrs. L. A. Baldwin at the piano. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the burial services at the Riverton cemtery where the mortal remains were laid to rest near his loved ones gone on before.
