In her retirement, Mabel Bridges (4/6/1891 - 4/18/1976), using a card file, gathered notes on the earliest of the pioneers in Fremont county. I'm copying the following from Mabel's notes:

1.--1841: William Barrett and Mary Jane Jones married 1841 by Jacob McKissick, J.P., who lived within two miles of present site of Hamburg; first couple married in Fremont county.--Hist. of Fremont co., 1881, page 510.

2.--1841: Mrs. Mary Barrett died May 10, 1910. As Mary Jane Jones was married to William Barrett on Oct. 7, 1841, by Justice McKissick at McKisick's Grove, 3 miles east of Hamburg; said to have been the first marriage of a white couple in Fremont county.--Source = ?

3.--1848: ORDERED that William Barrett be judge of said election on the first Monday and Tuesday in November. ORDERED that William Barrett be judge of election for electors of President and Vice President of the United States on the first Tuesday in November next.--Atchison County Court, August term, 1848.

4.--1850: William Barrett appointed judge of election in Henry township.--Minutes, July 1, 1850. (I think this would be the minutes for the County Commissioners for Fremont county.--W.F.)

9.--1856 Iowa State Census for Scott township, Fremont county:
