In her retirement, Mabel Bridges (4/6/1891 - 4/18/1976), using a card file, gathered notes on the earliest of the pioneers in Fremont county. I'm copying the following from Mabel's notes.

.--1842: Came to the county before 1842.--1875 Historical Atlas of Iowa, page 423.

.--1844: The stage line from Saint Joseph to Council Bluffs passed the C.W. McKissick residence on the adjoining claim south. Thomas Farmer kept a stage station, also a postoffice. His son-in-law, J.T. Davis, later kept a store at the station.--Biog. Hist. of Mills - Fremont, section 2, page 8.

.--First postmaster at McKissick's Grove.--Lingenfelter, page 7.

.--1849: Land entries made at Fairfield, Iowa: (a).--July 19, 1849; fractional northwest quarter of section 30 township 67 range 41; (b).--August 31, 1849: southeast quarter of section 30 township 67 range 41.--1881 History of Fremont county, page 401.

.--1849: Appointed jusstice of the peace for Polk township, Atchison county, Missouri, in 1849.

.--1850: Federal Census for Fremont county, Iowa
