DAVID HIATT, born March 4, 1831 at Peoria, Illinois - died June 24, 1911; married Elizabeth "Betsy" Eberman, born Dec. 22, 1836 - died Jan. 19, 1914; married on Janury 27, 1853 by Elias Findley at Margaret Eberman's in Fremont county, Iowa. Burial in Mount Zion, Green township, Fremont county, Iowa.
Elizabeth Hiatt had been a member of the Holiness Church at Mount Zion, Green township, for 20 years; Rev. Weavers preached her funeral. She has an "account" in the August 28, 1908 paper. The census says her father was born in Tennessee and that her mother was born in Pennsylvania.
Records at the FEDERAL RECORDS CENTER, Suitland, Maryland, "Kanesville, Iowa, Land Office Abstract Book I, March - December 1853".--Declaratory Statement No. 865 dated May 2, 1853 by David Hiatt for the northeast quarter of section 35 township 69 range 42; with this he entered Land Warrant No. 13701 which was for 160 acres, granted for service in the War of 1812 by the Act of Sept. 28, 1850.....Land Warrant #13701 had been issued to Isaac Green, a sergeant in Capt. Lillard' s Company of Tennessee Volunteers. He assigned it to David Hiatt of Sidney, Iowa, Fremot county on Feb. 26, 1852,--and--Hiatt located in on May 14, 1853.....Hiatt's pre-emption witness was Abram Beedle, who said Hiatt had a wife and had come from Missouri to make his settlement on the land.
In 1856, 1860, 1870 they lived in Sidney township; in 1880 they appear in the Ross township enumeration; in 1885 Iowa State Census they are living in the NW quarter of the NE quarter of Section 36, Township 70 Range 42....The Tabor Beacon of Jan. 29, 1914 says that in 1858 they moved to a farm three miles north of Sidney; did not move until 1881 and then to a farm 7 miles northeast of Sidney. From 1851 to 1881 they belonged to the United Brethren Church, and thereafter to the Holiness church.

1. Moses E., born May 7, 1854 - d. June 22, 1920; married Ida A. Pickens, b. ca. 1859 in Washington county, Iowa; married on Dec. 5, 1877. A son Arthur L. was born in 1879 and a daughter Lula B. born in 1882. In 1885 they were living in Section 19 Township 70 Range 41.
2. Margaret Amelia "Nancy", born Apr. 14, 1856 - d. May 9, 1944; married Charles W. Younts on DEc. 6, 1877. Buried at Sidney. From 1900 to 1944 they lived in Council Bluffs.
3. Alice, born ca. 1859 - d. 1939; married (1) Solomon Darst, b. April 15, 1856 - d. Apr. l8, 1905; married on July 7, 1879. Married (2) William H. Beam, son of Peter and Emily (Miller) Beam.
4. Melissa, b. ca. 1864; married Watson Hiatt. In 1914 they lived at Asoten, Washington; in 1931 they lived at Clarkson, Oregon.
5. Andrew M., born Oct. 1866; married Etta A. Irwin, born June 1873; married at Sidney on Oct. 11, 1888. Daughter of Hugh and Hannah (Fisher) Irwin. In 1914 they lived at Council Bluffs.
6. Joseph H., b. Jan 9, 1869 - d. May 14, 1906 at Fort Collins; married Anna M. Downey on Sept. 30, 1891. Daughter of Ira and Elizabeth (Cary) Downey. Lived in Omaha.
7. Ninian, b. ca. 1872. In 1914 lived at Ayr, Nebraska.
8. David Elmer, b. ca. 1874 - d. after 1944 when he was living at Hastings, Nebr.; married Maude E. Sutter, b. Dec. 12, 1872 in Madison county, Iowa - d. Oct. 26, 1911 at Ayr, Adams county, Nebr.; married on Nov. 20, 1895. Daughter of B. F. Sutter. Buried at Mt. Zion. In January 1907 the papers said he was moving from north of Malvern, Iowa, to near Hastings, Neb. In 1944 he lived at "514 West 4th, Adams county, Nebr." (?).
9. Charles Milton, b. ca. 1876. Lived at Imogene, Iowa.
10. John, born in Oct. 1879. In Dec. 1931, he had sons George and Gilbert who lived at Hastings, Nebr. John in 1944 lived in Omaha.
