THOMAS DUDLEY THORNTON, b. Sept. 23, 1827 near Covington, KY - d. June 30, 1909; married (1) JULIA A HUSTON, b. Nov. 24, 1835 - d. Mar. 2, 1879; married on March 17, 1852 in Cincinnati, Ohio......13 children of whom 4 died quite young. Buried in Rector Cemetery......In 1854 came to Fremont county, taking a steamboat from St. Joseph, Missouri up to Linden Landing, just below Hamburg; then came overland to within a couple of miles of Sidney.....Just last winter, he built the Thornton OPERA HOUSE in Sidney.

1. Charles Preston, b. Mar. 17, 1853 at Covington, Ky - d. Sept. 25, 1932; md. Louella M. Blanchard, b. Nov. 1861; md. on Aug. 6, 1876.....In 1909 were living in Junction City, Oregon.
2. James Valley, b. Apr. 1857 - d. after 1909; ;md. Maggie C. Stephenson, b. Nov. 1861 in Holt county, Missouri; married on Nov. 6, 1881 at Sidney. Daughter of Michael A. and Mathilda (Ramsey) Stephenson. In 1909 were of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
3. Tiberius Claudius, b. March 29, 1858 - d. Jan. 23, 1945; md. Zettie L. Todd, b. Oct. 1869 - d. July 29, ____; married on Mar. 31, 1889. Buried at Sidney. ....In 1904, were moving to Custer county, Nebr.
4. Monte M., b. Sept. 24, 1865 - d. Mar. 27, 1952; md. Eura E. Hiatt, b. Mar. 17, 1869 - d. Aug. 30, 1927; md. on Sept. 3, 1890 at Sidney. Daughter of Joseph and Martha (Estes) Hiatt.....Lived in Sidney.
5. Lillie R., born circa 1868 - d. after 1909; married Nelson Hiatton January 28, 1886 at her home; Oct. 20, 1904 was living at Mahaska, Kansas; lived in Burdett, S. D. in 1909. Son of Eli and Martha (Nelson) Hiatt.
6. Walter O., b. March 1870; md. Nellie Stone, b. May 1872. ...In 1909 were living in South Omaha; in 1945 were of Los Angeles, CA.
7. Franklin, b. ca. 1873
8. Adalbert "Bert"; b. ca. 1874......Aug. 31, 1899: A. Thornton sold his photograph outfit to John Hubbert last week.--Bartlett News.......May 28, 1903: Leaves as missionary to Japan.
9. Thomas C.; died after 1945; Oct. 28, 1904.--After leaving Bartlett, he has worked for the railroad in Junction City, Oregon, for the last 18 years.....In 1945, his brothers were W. O. Thortnon of Los Angeles; D. H. Thornton of Los Angeles; M. M. Thorton of Sidney.....In 1909,. a son Earl is mentioned

THOMAS D. THORTON married (2) MRS. CHARLOTTE E. (Bassett) BEASON, b. Dec. 25, 1855 at Decorah, Iowa - d. July 17, 1925; married on Sept. 13, 1888. They had five children, three of whom were living in 1925. (She married (1) Joseph Beason and had children Amasa and Roy). ....They lived near Thurman, but moved to Sidney where they built the first opera house in Sidney. Burial Sidney.....Oct. 25, 1900: Mrs. Edgar McCutcheon, sister of Mrs. T. D. Thornton, died at Scottsville, Kansas......June 29, 1906: Horton Bassett of Unadilla, Nebraska, was her brother......May 22, 1908: She had a brother living at Farnahamville, Iowa.
12. Oris Forrest, b. July 2, 1889; md. _____ Reed; married on Sept. 6, 1909. Daughter of John Reed.....In 1925 were of Council Bluffs; in 1946 were living in California.
13. Mable Maude, b. Mar. 21, 1892; md. _____ Grier on Sept. 10, 1923 at Sioux City, Iowa. In 1925 were of Council Bluffs; in 1956 were at 318 1/2 North 16th Street, Omaha.
14. Floyd, b. Feb. 1895. In 1925 was of Council Bluffs.
15. Zora Margurette, died May 4, 1900.
16. A son was born on May 7, 1901.
