THE FREMONT COUNTY HERALD. March 18, 1897. "OBITUARY".-- Thomas R. Smith was born in Shelbyville, Ky., Jan. 5th, 1812 and died at his home in Riverton, March 15th, 1897.
Mr. Smith moved to Booneville, Shelby county, Mo., where he resided for 11 years. He was married at this place to the daughter of Dr. Nathaniel Hutchison. To this union there were born nine children of which five survive him.
His first wife died a number of years ago and his second wife was Sarah Harbison to which were born eight children, of which only three survive him.
He moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where he resided until sometime last year when on account of his advanced age he was induced by his son and duaghter to come to Riverton, as he has filled important offices for the past 22 years and his feeble condition did not permit him to do the arduous work he had so long been engaged in. His health remained fair until about six weeks ago, when it was thought he could not live, but recovered somewhat, until about a week ago, when his condition became very alarming.
His body was properly embalmed Tuesday and on Wednesday his remains were placed on the morning train and conveyed to St. Joe., Mo., where they were laid away until the morning of the resurrrection.
Mr. Smith was an exemplary old gentleman and will be greatly missed by his many aquaintances. The son and two daughters here and his other children have the sympathy of all.
