THE SIDNEY ARGUS - HERALD. November 5, 1931. "Native Born Son Dead".-- From the Anthon, Iowa, Herald the following is taken:

Sam R. Lucas, 64 years old, of Chicago, a resident of Anthon for many years, died Saturday at his home in that city following an illness of eight months during which time he was a invalid. Burial was made in Chicago.

Sam R. Lucas was a cousin of:

Mrs. Ed. Baldwin of Thurman,
Fred Holloway of Randolph,
Chris Lucas of Thurman,
E.S. Lucas of Randolph,
Frank Lucas of Otis, Colorado,
Loren L. Lucas of Anthon,
O. S. Lucas of Thurman,
Robert Lucas of Thurman,
W. H. Lucas of Smithland,
Mrs. Will McCain of Strahan and
Mrs. W. S. McCluskey of Thurman

He was born near Sidney June 15, 1867. When but a small boy he was left an orphan and was raised by his grandmother, Mrs. Johnson, who lived northwest of Sidney.

He first came to Anthon in 1881 where he resided with his family until 1920 when they moved to Sioux City. Three years ago the family moved to Chicago.

Mr. Lucas was closely identified with the growth of the town of Anthon during his residence here. He was engaged in the real estate business and served the town as mayor, also in various other civic capacities. He was widely known and had a large circle of friends not only in this community but throughout the county where his real estate business called him. One of his ventures was the platting of the new additions to the towns of Anthon, Correctionville, Moville and Onawa. Most of these Lucas additions are now thriving residential sections of those towns.

Surviving are the widow, three children at home, who are Miss Mabel, Miss Lilva and Arthur, and Miss Cleo of Hollywood, California, all of whom were with their father when the end came.
