LOVELAND: The Cowles family name is associated with the earliest history of McKissick's Grove. Chauncey Cowles, who emigrated from Gallia co., Ohio to Fremont co. in 1849, had a farm 2 1/2 miles south of Riverton. His daughter Adelia (4/9/1843 - 3/5/1917) married Darwin Loveland (10/12/1830 - 2/8/1876) on Oct. 30, 1859. Their son Frank Loveland was County Clerk and the Sidney clothing merchant. As an outgoing county official, Loveland and his partner W. S. Stephens, bought out the one year old branch store of Hamburg's Stow and Gingrich on 1/1/1901. In January 1904, Stephens became the sole proprietor. Frank Loveland and wife (nee Madge Burkholder) were in Colorado in 1911. -- Source, date, unknown
