Phil,
I am Dale Jergensen, son of Irwin, son of Jess, son of Gudmun. I may have found Bertha on the Illinois marriage index. I was emailing with a gentleman in Norway who was trying to track down Gudmun's family here in the US. He sent me the link to the Illinois marriage index. It looks like Gudmun could have been using the farm name as his last name when he married Bertha. Gudmun's sister was already in LaSalle county at the time of the marriage. Gudmun could have come to Illinois first, gotten married and then moved on to Iowa. Ytervold was the name of the main farm where his family lived. The entry of

Jrytervold, Gudmund Walem, Bertha A, 12/17/85 2/82 2079
in LaSalle County
can be found on the following url:

This is all I have at the current time. I know that what I got from Rowena suggests that she died in Ellsworth, IA. I ran across something the other day that might indicate that they had moved to the Eagle Grove area before she died, and I can't remember what is was right now.
Do you know anything about Gudmun's siblings - Anna, Ola, Gundla, and Bertha? From what my Norwegian contact has told me, they all came to the US. I may have tracked down Anne(Anna) to Illinois. My contact says she married a Knut Gunnarson Vassbakken in 1878. I have found an Anne and Kanute Gunderson (close enough for genealogy work) with the right names for kids in the Illinois census. I have an email to an individual who looked like he was working on the same line. He has not yet responded back to me.
My sister, Judy, and I have been working on this stuff in spurts and stops for several years. Recently, I have gotten a lead on Kjlv Andersson and Gyri Kristoffersdtr who were my greatgrandmother Julia Jergensen's parents.
My sister and I have been trying to locate the grave site of Charles and Jori Tranen (Kjlv Andersson and Gyri ). The information that I have has them buried in the Holmes IA cemetery. The cemetery has no record of them. I am going to send my sister to the Eagle Grove cemeteries next. I suppose that they could have been buried in a corner of a farm. I have seen those around Iowa so it wouldn't be a large stretch. It looks like Charles lived with Inger at the end of his life according to the census of 1910.
I am trying to get a handle on the other children of Charles and Julia(Jori). I believe that Randy is female and married an N. Chelsvig. I think that the Andrew that I have listed was born Christen A., and the Christina that I have listed was born Anne Christine.
I would like to know what you have on the ancestors of Gudmun and Julia as well as of that of Bertha. I would guess from your posting that you don't have anything on Bertha. The only other things besides the possible marriage info is that she may be Danish. I can't put my fingers on where I came up with that right now either.
I hope that this helps,
Dale Jergensen
