George F. Vandivort, 95 of Dunlap, died August 16, 2000, at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa. He was born January 11, 1905, to Ira and Dora (Adcock Vandivort) in Hickman County, Tennessee. He attended school in Tennessee. George moved to Iowa when he was 14 years old.
He was united in marriage to Hilda Pederson on December 10, 1927. The couple made their home near Dunlap, then moved to Moorhead. They moved back to Dunlap and George operated his well drilling business. Hilda died in 1969, and George married Devota Mathys.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda in 1969; two sons, John in infancy and Franklin Vandivort in 1991; one daughter, Thelma Dunkeson in 1998; his second wife Devota Mathys in 1990; a son-in-law, Paul Baker in 1998; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, George Vandivort and wife Carol of Mapleton, IA.; two daughters, Doratt Baker of Panhandle, TX, and Roberta and husband Don Baker of Ashland, NE.; son-in-law, Francis “Badge” Dunkeson of Woodbine, IA.; and a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Vandivort of Deloit, IA.; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-granddaughter; and many other relatives and friends.
