John L. Mendenhall
John L. Mendenhall, 74, of Omaha died April 21 at Alegent Health Mercy Care
Center in Omaha.
He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Missouri Valley to John and Mabel (Olson)
Mendenhall. He lived in Council Bluffs for seven years, moving to Omaha in
1955. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was a clerk for
Property Accounting at Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1988 after 39
years service.
Mr. Mendenhall and his wife, Betty L. (Dreager), were married July 14, 1962.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, John M. and wife, Mary,
of Cherry Hills, N.J., Randall J. of Portland, Ore., and Ronald L. of Denver;
three sisters, Maxine Allen of Omaha, Joyce Weisz and husband, Wilbert, of
Logan and Kathryn Hotchkiss and husband, David, of Lognview, Wash.; five
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Wake service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. followed by family visitation until
8 p.m. at Cutler Chapel. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St.
Peters Catholic Church in Omaha with the Rev. John Rizzo officiating. The
body will be cremated following the services.
Memorials may be offered to the American Cancer Society.
