Seeking information on Alfred Walker, born 1804 in Loudoun Co., Virginia, the son of Joseph Walker and Mary Taylor. He lived in Licking Co., Ohio around 1830 before moving to Marion Co., Ohio. In 1832 in Marion Co. he married Lydia Coleman, whose maiden name is unknown. She had one son, Erastus Coleman, b. 1828 in Ohio.
Erastus married Margaret Wolf in Marion Co. in 1851. In 1853 Alfred and Lydia Walker, Erastus, Margaret and their son Thomas moved Harrison Co., Iowa. They settled in St. John's Twp and at various times lived in Cincinnati, St. John's and La Grange Twp. Erastus and Margaret had four other sons, Albert, Henry, Newton and Erastus. Erastus Sr. joined the 15th Iowa Inf. during the Civil War and was killed at the Battle of Atlanta in 1864.
Lydia died in 1876 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, St. John's Twp. Her son and grandsons Thomas in 1931 and Henry in 1943 were buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, St. John's Twp. It is unknown at this time when Alfred died but it was presumably between 1880 and 1893. Nor is it know where he is buried but he possibly would be buried in Oak Grove Cemetery with his wife.
Any additional information on him would be appriciated. He was a shoemaker, which he probably learned from his uncle Garrett in Loudoun Co., Virginia. He is listed as being blind in the 1870 and 1880 census. Very little is known about his blood relatives other than that he had at least two sisters. Elizabeth Walker whose husband was Henry Odle (O'dell). They lived in Licking Co., and Van Wert Co., Ohio. His sister Catherine Walker stayed in Loudoun Co. Virginia when her father and siblings moved to Ohio. She eventually moved there with her husband Jesse James Tavenner about 1845 and she died in Delphos, Van Wert Co., Ohio in 1849 after giving birth to her son Jonah.
Thank you,
Pat
