Funeral services for Harry Aherns, 86, of Council Bluffs will be Wednesday at
1 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer- Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Denise
Aherns officiating.
Mr. Aherns died Nov. 29 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1917, in Modale to Fred and Emma Lee Aherns. He served in
the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for the Council
Bluffs Street Department, retiring in 1979 after 32 years service. He was a member
of VFW Post No. 737.
Mr. Aherns was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; three grandchildren;
one sister and one brother.
Survivors include his daughter, Grace Traylor, and husband, Mike, of Council
Bluffs; sons, Harry G. and wife, Amy, of Bellevue, Neb., Gary and wife,
Denise, Teddy and Jerry and wife, Connie, all of Council Bluffs, and Steve and wife,
Linda, of Omaha; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond,
and wife, Pat, of Council Bluffs; and sister, Annie Miller, of Council Bluffs.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
home. Burial, with military rites at graveside, will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery with luncheon to follow at Crossroads Christian Church.
Memorials may be offered to Make A Wish Foundation.
