Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Harter;
grandson, Brian Yost; brother, David Knauss.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Woodbine; three children, Hazel and her
husband, Merrill Mohn, of Woodbine, Neil Knauss and his wife, Betsy, of
Woodbine and Dale Knauss and his wife, Helen, of Logan.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8
p.m. at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30
a.m. at the Christian Church in Logan.

Ernest “Ernie” Knauss was born December 22, 1921, in Logan, Iowa to parents
Hazle and Rachel (Beck) Knauss. Ernie’s father died when he was five or six
years old. His mother then married Frank Harter. Ernie was raised in Logan and
graduated from high school in 1942. On February 23, 1944, Ernie married
Helen Grosvenor at her parents’ home just north of Logan. The couple began
farming in the Logan, Neola and Woodbine areas. Ernie also worked for the Schaben
Real Estate office for a number of years.

Ernie was a member of the Christian Church in Logan. He served as an Elder
for 50 years. Ernie loved square dancing, and traveled to Okoboji every year
just to square dance. Ernie and Helen wintered in Texas for many years. The
couple loved to travel in their motor home. Ernie also enjoyed the out-of-doors
and hunting.

Ernie died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at his home in Woodbine, Iowa
attaining the age of 82 years, eight months and 28 days.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, grandson Brian
Yost, Brother David Knauss, Brothers-in-law Don Reuland, and Myron Van Cleave. He
is survived by his wife Helen of Woodbine, Iowa; three children Hazel and
her husband Merrill Mohn of Woodbine, Iowa, Neil Knauss and his wife Betsy of
Woodbine, Iowa, Dale Knauss and his wife Helen of Logan, Iowa; 15
grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four sisters Grace Van Cleave of Ankeny, Iowa,
Mildred and her husband Chuck Rabey of Sheffield, Iowa, Lillian and her
husband Jim Jensen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dorothy Reuland of Council Bluffs, Iowa;
brother Howard Harter and his wife Beverly of Logan, Iowa; sister-in-law
Erma Knauss of Underwood, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
