PERSIA - Verda Fitzgerald, 89, of Persia died Jan. 22 at Myrtue Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born near Portsmouth and lived in the Denver, Colo., area
from 1936 to 1950 before returning to Persia. She worked at Montgomery Wards
for several years in Colorado. She and her husband, M.G. "Casey" Fitzgerald,
operated Casey's Club in Persia from 1951 to 1973, then retired. They
continued to live in Persia.
Mrs. Fitzgerald and her husband were married 68 years.
Survivors in addition to her husband include daughter, Sharon Engman Jensen,
of Salem, Mo.; sisters, Opal Plambeck of Papillion, Neb., Evelyn Kuster of
Persia, Gloria Shield of Rowley; and brother, Melvin Williams and wife, Marie,
of Omaha; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation today from noon to 9 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in
Valley View Cemetery in Persia.
