Eva Maxine (Lawson) McCann was born April 2, 1917 to Frank and Pearl (VanWinkle) Lawson in Lewiston, Neb. She grew up in the Pawnee County, Neb., and graduated from Lewiston Consolidated School in 1934. She then worked for Pawnee County Hospital for a few years before moving to Omaha, Neb., in 1940 to work as a hostess and waitress.
On June 10, 1955, she married Phil McCann in Franklin, Neb. The couple lived in Omaha, Neb., for six years before moving to Dunlap, Iowa to begin their farming operation.
Eva was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. She was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club. Eva loved to watch baseball whenever she could.
Eva died on Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa, attaining the age of 88 years and nine days. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Cecil, Claude, Bill, and LeRoy Lawson; and one sister, Delma Habrick. She is survived by her husband, Phil McCann; four brothers, Rich Lawson and his wife Donna of Davenport, Neb., Luke Lawson and his wife Jean of Weeping Water, Neb., Clark Lawson and his wife Pauline of Beatrice, Neb., Norm Lawson and his wife Carol of Bowling Green, Ky.; one sister, Edna Gafford of Seneca, Kan.; one step-son, Vince McCann and his wife Kathy of Montrose, Colo.; nephew, Kirk Lawson and his wife Margaret of Omaha, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday morning, April 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap with Rev. Paul Strittmatter officiating. Musician was Marilyn Grote and vocalist was Margaret Lawson who sang "Ave Maria." Pallbearers were Daniel Lawson, Luke Lawson, Gary Brock, Mike Loy, Gene Staben, Eddie Sullivan. Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements. www.foutsfuneralhome.com
