I see in the 1870 census in Eden, Vermont, that Alexander Lamphire is age 20
and living with (his brother?) Edgar and Cynthia Lamphire. Edgar is 28 and
married and Alexander is age 20. Living next door is Arunah Adams, wife
Martha, children, including daughter Louana, age 14.
In the 1880 census for Harrison County, Iowa, Morgan Township, 1 July 1880,
is this same Edgar and Cynthia Lanpher (note spellings):
Dwelling 85, family 90:
Lanpher, Edgar, 38, b. VT, father b. Can., mother b. (blank)
Lanpher, Cynthia, 33, b. Can, father b. Can, mother b. RI
Lanpher, Alberta, 13, daughter, b. VT
Lanpher, May, 12, daughter, b. VT
Lanpher, Fred, 7, b. IA
By the 1900 census in Harrison Co., Iowa, Logan town, Cynthia is widowed:
(note: Cynthia was widowed by 1895 when she appeared in the 1895 census)
Lanpher, Cynthia, b. June 1844, age 55, widow, "capitalist" born Canada,
parents born Canada, gave birth to 7 children, 4 survive
Lanpher, Fred W., son, b. Jul 1874, age 25, b. IA, father b. VT, mother b.
Can, carpenter
Lanpher, Lillie C., daughter, b. Oct 1884, age 15, b. IA, father b. VT,
mother b. Can, in school
In Cincinnati Township, Harrison Co., there is a William Lanfer, boarder, b.
Jan 1861, age 39, b. NY, parents b. NY
It could be that your Alex and Luana Lanphere came to Iowa because Alex's
brother, Edgar, lived there. I don't find them, however, in the 1880 census
or the 1900 census in Iowa. Only Edgar and Cynthia.

spelling variation of the name. I am told by family that he and his wife
Luana Adams and their three children Myron C., Bessie, and Jessie Maude
Lanphere or other spelling moved to the Logan Iowa area sometime between
1885-1905, I can find no record of them anywhere. It is also said that
Alex's sister Jane Lanphere moved with them. I have no other info on this
family. Anyone that has any info on this family from Vermont to Iowa,
please contact me. Thank You in Advance for any help.
