Message Board Post:

Jeanne Marie Tamisiea, 57, Iowa City, an inspiration to us all, died July 4 after a long and brave battle with viral congestive heart failure and implantation of a Bi-VAD at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Jeanne was born Sept. 11, 1948 in Council Bluffs, to Mary Frances and Dr. Francis Xavier Tamisiea. Jeanne was a passionate artist, profound spiritualist, animal and nature lover, wonderful daughter and sister, an extraordinary teacher, an "amazing" patient, a true and deep friend to so many, and a mother beyond compare. She received a BFA from Drake University, an MFA from Michigan State, and an MA in Illustration from Syracuse University. For 18 years she was a professor and chair of the Art Department at Black Hawk College, a valuable member of the Quad Cities Arts Council, and assisted in the development of the Figge Art Museum.
Jeanne always pursued life to the fullest. She enjoyed playing the piano, camping with her family, and traveling the world. Her artwork graces the walls of the North Dakota capital building and she wrote and illustrated a children's book. During the latter part of her life she built her own art studio, began scuba diving, learning archery, rowing the Mississippi, fly-fishing, and playing the cello. Nowhere was her passion for life more evident than in her artwork. The subject matter of her work ranged from the whimsical "Seven-legged Flying Roller-Skating Pig" to the prophetic "Lady-Heart." With her radiant smile and big green eyes, Jeanne transformed the lives of her many students, friends, and relatives. She lived every day of her last year with their love and support, hoping and working toward the goal of a new heart. While that goal was never realized, her spirit is now truly and eternally free. She is survived and greatly missed by her daughter Lyndsay, her future so!
n-in-law Max, her brothers Paul, Richard and Dean, and her cat Percy. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. A memorial service will be held at her home Sunday, Sept. 10 in honor and celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jeanne Tamisiea's memory to the Nature Conservancy at 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203 reference #1430243, the Humane Society at www.hsus.org under Memorial Gifts for pets and people, and/or the Heart Transplant Support Group Fund at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Heart Transplant Center, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, IA, memo Jeanne Tamisiea. Iowa residents can also register to become an organ donor at www.iowadonornetwork.org
Condolences may be sent to 48 Blackhawk Hills Ct, Rock Island, Il 61201.
(Ed. note: Ms. Tamisiea's father, Dr. F.X. Tamisiea practiced medicine in Missouri Valley for many years.)

Respectfully submitted for other researchers.
