Miles J. "Doc" Hubbard, 88, of Nokomis, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at 1:20 p.m., at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, Ill. He was born May 18, 1918, in Witt, Ill., the son of Dr. E.D. and Hattie Nantkes Hubbard. He married Myrt Jones in 1944 in Omaha, Neb. Mr. Hubbard attended National School of Aviation. He was a test pilot, including on the Enola Gay, the B-29 bomber that later dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and a mechanic. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and Experimental Aircraft Association. He is survived by his wife, Myrt of Dunlap, Iowa; two daughters, Sue (husband Leif) Skalleberg of Norway and Connie (husband Lyndell) Wernsing of Raymond, Ill; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (wife Eleanor) Hubbard of Omaha, Neb., and George (wife Shirley) Hubbard of Nokomis, Ill.; a sister, Audrey Kacura of Phoenix, Ariz. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hubbard. Services were h!
eld Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis, Ill., with Rev. Clifford Adair officiating.
