Hi everyone,
I honestly think I've got a snowball's chance with this guy (if you know
what I mean!) but here it goes. John Krucek was a lad of about 17 when
his family came to Winneshiek county Iowa in the mid 1850's from
Bohemia. They soon adopted the "h" in the name to conform with the
American pronounciation. He served in the Civil War and afterwards,
moved to Humbolt county. His Civil War pension record has him as John
Grutchek. He married Mary Seward ( or Steward) somewhere along the way.
She was supposedly from royal blood in England and it seems his family
either didn't like her, or her religion so to my knowledge, they never
spoke again. Near the turn of the century he moved his family to
Washington state.
John was a brother to my husband's great grandmother. So I just keep
lurking in the background here, watching for a post about this man, in
case anyone else is looking for him too.
Laurie
