Hello,
I've just joined the list (am sending this from Motel 6 in Coralville where
I'm completing a week of research at the Iowa State Historical Society).
When I came, I was not expecting to get involved in Iowa Co research as I
thought Marengo was too far away. But thanks to an Iowa Citian and other
things, I just got back from visiting a number of Iowa Co ancestors (graves)
including ggggrandparents Thomas Harvey and Thankful Ann (Clark) Swezey in
the Titler Cemetery north of Marengo, and Ellen (Swezey) Darner in the
Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Phillip and Rebecca (Winn) Darner came to Marshalltown Iowa in 1854 from
Ohio and moved shortly thereafter to Honey Creek where they farmed. Their
sons Andrew and Phillip married Ellen and Mary Swezey, respectively. The
children of Andrew and Ellen were all born in the Ladora area.
Thomas and Thankful Swezey and Thomas' brother Oliver Swezey and wife Maria
(Sabin) Swezey came with their families sometime between 1855 and 1860 to
Marengo. Thomas was a farmer, Oliver a carpenter.
If anyone has knowledge of these families or connections to them, I would
much appreciate hearing from you.
Diane from California but in Iowa
