Surname: HARRINGTON, O'LEARY
-------------------------

I am not researching this family but I do have a 2 volume set of history
books, "History of Kossuth County, Iowa" by B.F. Reed, published in 1913.
Vol. 2 has family histories and one of the histories is Timothy P. Harrington.
There is also a picture of Mr. Harrington. If you want a copy of the picture,
please e-mail me directly with your home address and I will send you a
copy. Following is a summary of the history of TIMOTHY P. HARRINGTON:

Timothy P. Harrington was born December 17, 1867 at New Diggins, Wisconsin,
the son of John P. and Margaret (O'Leary) Harrington who were both natives
of Ireland. John P., the father, was a sailor. Having come to America in
boyhood, he enlisted in the United States navy and served during the Mexican
War. Later he married in Massachusetts and then moved to Wisconsin where
he raised six sons and three daughters. Timothy was the youngest son and
had one younger sister. Margaret (O'Leary) Harrington, the mother, died
in 1872 in Wisconsin. In about 1882, the father, John P. Harrington, moved
to Wright county, Iowa. He died in Winnebago county, Iowa in 1899.

Timothy P. Harrington was age 14 when he came with his family to Wright
county, Iowa where he attended public school. He studied law at the University
of Iowa and graduated in 1899 winning the degree of LL.B. After graduation
he moved to Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa and organized the firm of Harrington
& Dickinson on July 1, 1899. It is an old, established law firm of Algona.
The prominence and capability of its members are attested by the extensive
clientage accorded them.

Timothy P. Harrington was a member of the city council for a number of
years and now belongs to the school board. He is also a member of the library
board and is the present secretary of the Kossuth County Agricultural Society.
He filled the office of county attorney from January 1, 1903 - January
1, 1907. He is a stalwart republican.

In 1902, Timothy Harrington married Miss May Johnson of Algona, daughter
of Mrs. E.V. Swetting of Algona. Timothy and May Harrington have two children:
Howard, born 22 January 1906, and Robert J., born 6 May 1909. They belong
to the Congregational church. He belongs to the Knights of Pythias organization,
holding membership in Algona Lodge, No. 174 in which he has filled all
the chairs. He is also a member of Algona Lodge of the Yeomen of America.
