BERG, MARTIN, saloon-keeper, Fifth street, between main and Blondeau; was
born in Bavaria, Germany, in 1827; came to American in 1852, and to Keokuk
in 1853, and has since been engaged in the hotel and saloon business. Married
Miss Phebe Hiser in 1863; she was born in Ohio in 1843; they have five
children - Lizzie, Albert, John, Amelia and Martin, Jr. Mr. B. is a member
of the Druids and Turner Societies,; the family belong to the German Presbyterian
Church; Liberal.
