Hi all,

I'm happy to see all these posts, and I agree with Carolyn Whaley's thoughts
about the value of historical context when researching ancestors. A lot can
be gained from scanning posts even if the surname isn't one of yours.

My g-g-g-grandmother Eliza Babcock Berry Kortright moved from Boone County,
IL to Linn County with her second husband, James S. Kortright, between 1870
and 1880. She was born in New York about 1817 and moved from Chenango
County, NY to Erie County, OH with her first husband in the early 1840s. She
married James S. Kortright in OH and joined her Babcock family in Boone
County, IL in the 1850s. As a result of reading posts to both the Chenango
and Boone County lists, I've noted numerous other families who made the same
move. Is anyone aware of what might have drawn settlers to Linn County
during the 1870s? Does anyone else have Linn ancestors who moved from Boone
County, IL?

At the time of her death in 1912, Eliza was living with James in Coggon.
They had two children, Ruben and Ellen, who also lived in Linn County. Any
Kortright researchers out there?

Christine
