The POORHOUSE STORY website (at http://www.poorhousestory.com ) is a
clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses. We are
very grateful to Susie Martin-Rott for just having let us know about pages
on the MUSCATINE County GenWeb site which document information about the
Muscatine County Home cemetery. There are also notes about how the research
of the cemetery was accomplished. This is a wonderful effort! (And we do
mean "effort" ... as in "hard work" and "dedication.") We wish more
communities would follow this example to honor the lives of those who died
in poorhouses.

So...we have posted links to those pages on our IOWA page at
http://www.poorhousestory.com/poorhouses_in_iowa.htm
NOTE: We have been publishing new material to this page quite frequently
over the past couple of weeks. So if you have been there recently ... you
probably need to click REFRESH on your browser to see the new material.

If you are new to the site,
DIRECTIONS:
at the homepage (link above)click on POORHOUSES BY STATE and then click on
IOWA on the table of states.

There are other pages on PHS which can help you gain a better understanding
of poorhouses; they are all linked off the homepage (left side) and include:
HISTORY page, LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS, and FEATURED ARTICLES. We also archive
our (almost) monthly newsletters which review all new postings since the
previous newsletter. (You can find the link to these on the left side of the
homepage, as well as a link to subscribe to the newsletter on the lower
right side of the homepage.)

Our information will only grow through the suggestions and submissions of
readers like you! If you wish to e-mail me, please do so off-list (because I
cannot maintain subscriptions to all the lists to which we post)... and
include in the subject line the name of the state and county with which you
are concerned.

Hope you enjoy!
