Know all men by these presents, that I Lucretia C. Shepard now of Beloit,
Mitchell County, State of Kansas being in failing health and of sound mind
and good memory do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby
revoking all former wills and codicils by me heretofore made.
First: I devise that all of my just debts shall be paid and that my body
after my decease shall be at once conveyed to Sutherland in the County
of O'Brien and State of Iowa and then buried beside my deceased husband
and that a headstone be erected as near like the one now at the head of
my husbands grave as may be and an Iron fence erected around the lot.
Second: That all of my household goods and furniture shall be equally divided
between my daughters Eva E. Chandler, Mary L. Powers, Frances F. Farnsworth
and Alta Shepard my grand-daughter and Edmond T. Shepard and Edwin T. Shepard
William C. Shepard and the three children of my deceased daughter Josephine
Bliss. Lynn, Myrtle and Iva.
Third: I devise and bequeath the Iron grey horse left by my deceased husband
with Eugene Farnsworth to him as small compensation for the care he gave
my said husband while in the mountains and for the expense of bringing
the body of my said husband back to our home.
Fourth: My will is that my house and lots described as follows viz . ./
. Lots Four and Nineteen (4 & 19) in Block One in Bamraths Addition to
Sutherland in the County of O'Brien and State of Iowa be sold as soon as
can conveniently be done after my decease and after the payments of all
of the debts claims and expenses herein before mentioned that the remainder
be equally divided between my children as follows viz . - Edmond T., Edwin
T. and William C. Shepard. James F. Shepard, Don E. Shepard, Eva E. Chandler,
Mary L. Powers, Frances F. Farnsworth and that my three grandchildren Lynn,
Myrtle and Iva Bliss have each one third of an equal share. That my granddaughter
Alta P. Shepard shares equally with my said children.
Sixth: My will is and I devise and bequeath to my daughter in law Amelia
Shepard my new rag carpet sewed with cotton and designed to be used in
the large room. Also our rag bedroom carpet to match the one above described.
Seventh: I do hereby nominate and appoint my son William C. Shepard and
my granddaughter Alta P. Shepard Executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I the said Lucretia C. Shepard have to this my last
will and testament, written on one entire sheet of Legal Cap paper with
the words in lines marked with figures 1 - and 2 -3 and -4 erased. Subscribed
my name this Nineteenth day of June AD 1891/Eighteen hundred and ninety
one.
