After looking at the Mormon settlements map again, there is a North Pigeon settlement in Harrison County, North of Pottawattamie County. Many early Mormon settlers came into Shelby, Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties and started to create settlements in the Missouri River Valley. Most people don't realize that the Missouri River didn't always stay in its channel in the 1840-60 timeframe. It flooded regularly, so most of the early settlements were made at the foot of the Loess Hills bluffs, a mile or two away from the River and along Pigeon Creek.
Anyway, I have a History of Harrison County, Iowa, as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an all-name index, and reading through early county history and history of early church settlements, I don't find the name Depew or Depue.
Since this group was Mormon, you may want to contact the historian for early church records at:
Or go to the USGenWeb site for Pottawattamie and Harrison Counties to see if there is other info for you.
Regards,
Mona
