Surname: DRUMMOND, WORK, HITE, MORGAN, RAZEY, PICKENS
-------------------------

We have a snag on the history of the DRUMMOND family of Scott County:

Sarah WORK was listed in the 1850 Iowa census as a widow. She had 6 children:
John W. [CA1836-1857], md Mary MORGAN; James Harvey [1836-1902], Allen's
Grove &
Hickory Grove, md Aurilla RAZEY; Elizabeth [ca1837-ca1855], died Topeka,
KS; William
[1840-1923], Donahue, md Hannah Maria HITE, 2nd Iowa Infantry; Robert [1842-1921],
Allen's Grove, md Rebecca Jane PICKENS; AND Charles [1847-1938], Pleasant
Valley, md
Barbara ZOGG. All were in the household on the 1850 census.

THE PROBLEM: The family came from Clark Co., IN in 1844. James W. is apparently
buried in
Clark Co. and his stone says he died in 1842 at the age of 32; yet Charles
was born in Iowa [the
only child born in Iowa] in 1847. James W. and his wife, "Sarah" purchased
land in Indiana in
1836. The Davenport Democrat & Leader in 1929, "Mr. DRUMMOND [Charles]
was born in
LeClaire township Dec. 11, 1847, a son of James and Sarah DRUMMOND, who
came from
Indiana in 1844."

William named his father, John on his Civil War pension application, but
his obituary and his death
certificate [both probably written by Charles] named his father, James.
All documents name Sarah
WORK as mother.

One more hitch - the Clark Co., IN marriage records show two John DRUMMONDS
- one of
whom married Sarah WORK! No record of James W's marriage.

Does anyone have any information on this family? Is there an explanation
for the birth of Charles
appartently 5 years after his father's death?
