Inez Hulet
Services for Inez m. Hulet, 99, of LeClaire, will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday
at First Presbyterian Church, LeClaire. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery,
LeClaire.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, LeClaire, with an
Eastern Star service conducted by Silver Creek Chapter 302, LeClaire. Additional
visitation is one hour before the services Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Hulet died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Davenport Medical Center.
Inez Cope was born Nov. 26, 1898, in Fieldon, Ill., to William and Luella
(Rayfield) Cope. She married Percy Hulet on July 3, 1931, in Davenport.
He died Nov. 11, 1982.
Mrs. Hulet graduated from the former Des Moines University, earning a bachelor
of arts degree. In 1924, she began teaching in LeClaire. She taught business
courses at the high school, although her primary position was principal,
which she held for 37 years with the LeClaire Independent School District.
She implemented the first yearbook produced at the school. Over the years
as principal, her duties varied from coaching plays, coordinating the yearbook
and newspaper, taking tickets at ball gamesand chaperoning the girls basketball
games. She retired in 1962, but remained as a typing teacher until her
final retirement in 1967.
Her memberships included LeClaire Presbyterian Church, in which she held
several offices during her 71-year membership; American Legion Auxiliary,
LeClaire; LeClaire Cemetery Association; Silver Creek Chapter 302 Eastern
Star, LeClaire; Buffalo Bill Museum, LeClaire; Davenport Retired Teachers
and LeClaire Women's Club. She was treasurer of Barracks 1504 and served
as president of 1st District Barracks. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, LeClaire, in care of
the Scholarship Fund.
Survivors include a sister, Opal Pearl Short, Guthrie Center; a brother,
Kenneth W. Cope, Lakewood, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother.
