J Glen Longhurst Logan – J Glen Longhurst, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2002 at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born in Paris, Idaho on March 21, 1913 to Charles George and Margaret Bryson Longhurst.
He spent his youth in Paris, Idaho attending the local schools and graduating from Fielding Academy. He attended Utah State Agricultural College and has lived in Logan since 1944. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate and was stationed in Eniwetok, Kwajalein, Tarawa and Solomon Islands.
He married Ruby Pearl Pate on August 1, 1939. She passed away in 1977. He married Mildred Coleman Hunzeker on April 23, 1982.
Glen worked for the Bear Lake Co-op hauling milk, and has also been employed at Everton Hardware and Utah Scientific Research Foundation. He was a machinist and draftsman at Utah State University. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission to New England, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He has served in the Bishopric of the Logan 17th Ward and in many other capacities including many years at the Logan Temple with his wife, Mildred.
Glen is survived by his wife, Mildred; two sons Glen Reed (Jean), Idaho Falls, Idaho; LeMar (Cindy), Kaysville, Utah; a daughter-in-law: Jacquiline; step children: DeVon (Inga) Hunzeker; Bonnie (Farrell) Parker; Richard (Destiny) Hunzeker; Jerry (Joyce) Hunzeker; Michael (Linda) Hunzeker; Jim (Susan) Hunzeker; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Charles (Elizabeth) Longhurst, Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby; a sister, Carol; two sons: John and Grant Jay; and two grandsons: Charles Reed Longhurst and Ryan Glen Longhurst.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2002 at the Logan 15th Ward Chapel, 125 West 600 North, with Bishop Don Rawlinson conducting. Friends and family may call Sunday evening, October 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North and on Monday morning at the church prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment will be in the Paris, Idaho Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
