Gene Beth Hubbard Croft, 82, passed away July 16, 2003 at the Atria Crosslands Retirement Center in Sandy, Utah. Gene was born February 1, 1921, in Montpelier Idaho to Lester Andrew and Barbara Larsen Hubbard. Gene married Bryant Heiner Croft in 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Gene graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in art. While at the University of Utah, Gene was president of Delta Gamma Sorority, president of Mortar Board, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She served as president of Opera Appreciation Club, and was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority, Ladies Literary Club, Bonneville Knife and Fork, Great Books, and Squeak and Squawk, a music organization. Gene was a cellist and played in classical trios and taught cello for many years. She was also an accomplished landscape oil paint artist. She taught as an English instructor at the University of Utah in 1958 to 1959. She also taught in her church activities.

She could throw great dinner parties at the drop of a hat, and was devastating competition at duplicate bridge. She loved to dance, body surf, travel, and visited many foreign countries.

Gene is survived by her daughter, Barbara Terry (Philip), Salt Lake City; a daughter-in-law, Kris Donkin Croft, Glendale, Arizona; six grandchildren, Dana Palmer (Andy), Lebanon, Ohio; Devin Croft, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ashley Pugmire (Kelvin), Glendale, Arizona; Zachary Terry, Salt Lake City; Sarah Terry, Salt Lake City; Audrey Terry, New York City; and one great-granddaughter, Megan Palmer, Lebanon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, Lee Bryant Croft, a daughter, Sarah Ann Croft, and a sister, Neva Elaine Hubbard Bernson. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may call Saturday afternoon, from 12:00 noon to 1:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North "N" Street. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary.
