ROY - Wallace DeVerl Thornock died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at a local care center of cancer. He was born September 18, 1924, in Bloomington, Idaho, a son of Ervin Blaine and Hettie Annie Smith Thornock.
Wallace was raised in Bloomington, Idaho, where he attended Fielding High School. He later moved to Ogden, Utah. He joined the U.S. Army and served in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.
He married Mary Louise McDonald on March 18, 1946 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 40 years and were later divorced. He married Mary Wanda Workman in Mesa, Arizona. She died in April of 2003.
He was employed at Hill Air Force Base retiring in 1985. Following retirement he moved to Mesa, Arizona.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a High Priest in the Ogden 44th Ward. He served as a home teacher, Deacons Quorum Advisor, secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood and Stake Sports Director. He was a dedicated Scout Leader for over 30 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his dedication to Scouting. He was nicknamed Mr. `T.` His devotion led to over 80 Eagle Scouts including all of his sons. While living in Mesa, Arizona, Wallace enjoyed genealogy work and serving in the baptistery of the Mesa Temple.
He is survived by his sons, Michael DeVerl (Bonnie) Thornock, Sandy; Ronald Lyle (Gaylene) Thornock, Ogden; Sheldon Dee (Karla) Thornock, Kaysville; Kerry Lynn (Mary) Thornock, Auburn, WA; Craig Dee (Alta) Thornock, Clinton; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Wilma Koch, Ogden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ralph, Dewain, and Eugene.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquists Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 10 to 10:45 a.m.Interment, Lindquists Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
