FORMER NIC TRUSTEE ANNA EDMINSTER DIES

The woman for whom North Idaho College’s (NIC) Edminster Student Union Building was named, Anna R. Edminster, 90, died Friday at Sunset Terrace Nursing Home.

A resident of Coeur d’ Alene for more than 50 years, Mrs. Edminster was appointed by the State Board of Education in 1939 to serve as a member of the North I daho J unior College Board of Trustees.

She was a trustee of the college until her retirement from the board four years ago. The trustees at that time made her trustee emeritus of the college.

Born Anna R. Ritchey Aug. 17, 1882, near Farmington, Wash. She began her career in education as a teacher in one room schools.

She taught in one room school houses at Fernwood and St. Joe in Northern Idaho and in Oregon until June of 1917 when she married Reuben Edminster and moved to Coeur d’ Alene.

Mr. Edminster preceded his wife in death in 1956.

A member of the NIC Board of Trustees when the college was located on the third and fourth floors of Coeur d’ Alene City Hall, Mrs. Edminster was a charter member of the North Idaho Junior College Sponsors Club – an organization of Coeur d’ Alene residents interested in supporting and promoting the Junior College.
