MALAD — Dale Jones Thomas, 76, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at the Oneida County Hospital as result of a stroke. He was born Nov. 10, 1929, in St. John, Idaho, a son of Thomas Franklin and Maude Irene Jones Thomas.
He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Malad High School. Dale served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He married his high school sweetheart, Fern Daniels on Sept. 10, 1951, in the Logan LDS Temple. Fern passed away April 13, 2001.
Dale was a very active member of the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post 65 and had served for several years as the sergeant-of-arms. He was instrumental in assisting with the planning each year for the Malad Elementary School’s Veterans Day program as well as working to see the Oneida County Veterans Memorial Park completed this past year. Dale also served as a member of the Oneida County Gun Club, the Pleasantview Cattle Association, Buist Fields, ICA Board, the Oneida County Fair board, and as past chairman of the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
He worked for 13 years as an auto parts man for Ren’s Chevrolet in Malad. He had also been employed as manager of the Idaho State Liquor Store in Malad as well as in Pocatello. He loved his farm in St. John, where he raised prize registered Hereford cattle. He enjoyed attending rodeos, cowboy poetry, traveling, playing cards, hunting and spending time with family and his many friends.
Dale is survived by his daughter; Susan (Chris) Bowen of St. John; daughter-in law, Denise Thomas; sister, Mary Lou (Dean) Williams of Pocatello; sister-in-law, Barbara Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers-in- law, Farrel (Thelma) Daniels of Malad; Rex (Gloria) Daniels of St. John; sisters-in-law, Thelma (Howard) Wakley of Malad; Lela (Reed) Henderson of Pleasantview; Deon (Carol) Jones of St. John; also an aunt, Norma Jones of Rigby, Idaho; three grandchildren; Tyrell, Taija, and Taylor Bowen all of St. John.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fern; a son, Dale Roy Thomas; a grandson, Trevan Lee Bowen; a granddaughter; Brittney Thomas; and a brother; John J. Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, located at 1250 N. 1100 W. Friends may call at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W, Jones Post 65.
