Harter H. 'Pete' Phillips




INKOM - Harter H. "Pete" Phillips, 77, longtime resident and businessman of Inkom, passed away Monday, evening December 18, 2006, from an accident at his diesel truck shop in Inkom. He was born December 2, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of Morgan and Sena Mae Higgins Phillips. He attended schools in Inkom, and graduated from Inkom High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War.
On December 24, 1950, he married Barbara J. Anderson in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Following his time in the Navy, Pete was always self-employed. He first bought the Lester Skeem service station in Inkom. He purchased the Fulkman Grain Elevator in Inkom in 1960. He later owned grain elevators in Malad, Arimo, Bancroft and Fort Hall. His holdings, including the diesel truck shop, became Phillips Industries in the early 1980s, which he operated until his death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006, at noon at the Inkom LDS Church, with Bishop Gordon S. Lish of the Inkom Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening, Dec. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Inkom LDS Church and Friday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Inkom Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave., Pocatello.
56 years, Barbara Phillips, Inkom; two sons, David Phillips, Kerry (Sheree) Phillips, all of Inkom; a daughter, Kim (Kent) Whitehead, Inkom; grandchildren, Troy (Misty), Nichole (Trevor) Campbell, Shelby Phillips, Josh, Tiana and Taneyka Phillips, Tiffany (Chance) Cannon, Dakota and Breekyn Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Phillips, Payton and Camri Campbell, Ashton Cannon, Maesen Jensen, Cody and Jorden Morrison; three brothers, Bill (Carol) Phillips, Pocatello, Ridge (Bonnie) Phillips, Springville, Utah, Ray (Beverly) Phillips, Inkom; three sisters, Myrtle Parks, Peoria, Arizona, Wilma (Al) Allen, Pocatello, Dorothy (John) Green, Blackfoot, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, Lucy M. Gray, grandson, Spencer H. (named after his Grandpa), a brother, Sterling Phillips, brother in-law, Mel Parks, sister inlaw, Kathrine Hargraves.
He was a member of the LDS Church, having served as Sunday school teacher, elder's quorum president, home teacher and he was a high priest at the time of his death. He liked fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and taking care of his cattle. His greatest joy was being with his children, grandchildren and great-He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone in the community.
