Wayne,
Just a suggestion, try searching in the Jefferson Barracks national Cemetery in St. Louis. If you can determine where the regiment was at when he died, that may help you to locate a possible local cemetery to search as well.

Hi List
Searching for Wesley D.Smith with the 66th Illinois Infantry co.B I believe
who is recorded as
wounded and died b/4 66th actually took the field.
Have written to the national address in hopes to find location of where he
is buried. At least
a start to rule out places. It has been about 4+months lapse and no word
from them. I have
since missplaced the mailing address in Washington DC to again submit.
Previously one kind lister had suggested that he could have died at
Springfield MO or on route
back to St.Louis. Date of Death was OCT 3, or 10th 1861
I worry that they maybe a chance that my relative might have been buried by
local townsfolk
after a skirmish or battle there in MO. Any advice-direction very
appreciated.
