Harriet Steffen Murphy of Mount Prospect The funeral for Harriet
Steffen Murphy, 80, a former longtime resident of Park Ridge, will begin at
9:15 a.m. Saturday, at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Road (at
Cumberland), Park Ridge, then proceed to Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church for a
Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. She passed away Tuesday, Feb.
28, 2006. Harriet was past president of the Danish Home Auxiliary, a
volunteer coordinator of Haake Home at the Youth Campus in Park Ridge, a
longtime mentor at Maryville Academy and a teacher for 30 years at the Elk
Grove School District. She was the loving wife of the late Richard F.
Steffen and the late James P. Murphy; dear mother of Richard F. (Katherine)
Steffen, Robert (Marion) Steffen, Charles P. Murphy, Barbara (Thomas)
Spicer, Christopher (Dawn) Steffen and Beth (Mark) Porst; proud grandmother
of Matthew, Robbie, Timmy, Barbie, Michael, Ben, Jill and Cole Steffen,
Lauren, Erynn and Evan Murphy, Megan, Betsy, Tommy, Annie, Matt, Nellie and
Charlie Spicer, and Hayley, Chris and Luke Porst; and beloved daughter of
the late Emanuel and Mary Nielsen. In lieu of flowers, memorials to
Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016, appreciated.

Harriet Steffen Murphy, 80, of Mount Prospect, former longtime resident of
Park Ridge, died Feb. 28.

Mrs. Murphy was a past president of the Danish Home Auxiliary based in
Chicago's Norwood Park community, a volunteer coordinator of Haake Home at
the Youth Campus in Park Ridge and longtime mentor at Maryville Academy in
Des Plaines.

She taught for 30 years in the Elk Grove School District.

Preceded in death by her husbands, Richard F. Steffen and James Murphy, she
is survived by her children, Richard F. (Katherine) Steffen, Robert (Marion)
Steffen, Charles Murphy, Barbara (Thomas) Spicer, Christopher (Dawn) Steffen
and Beth (Mark) Porst; grandchildren, Matthew, Robbie, Timmy, Barbie,
Michael, Ben, Jill and Cole Steffen, Lauren, Erynn and Evan Murphy, Megan,
Betsy, Tommy, Annie, Matt, Nellie and Charlie Spicer and Hayley, Chris and
Luke Porst.

Visitation was held March 3 in the Nelson Funeral Home, Park Ridge.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated March 4 in Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church,
Granville and Cumberland avenues, Park Ridge. Burial was in All Saints
Cemetery, Des Plaines.

Memorials to Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Road, Des Plaines IL 60016,
are appreciated.
