NORTHWEST of CHICAGO
http://wttw.com/northwestofchicago/
In the style of his hit programs "Chicago's North Shore" and "South of
Chicago: Suburbs, Steel Mills, Shoreline," Geoffrey Baer takes Channel
11 viewers on a journey through the Northwest suburbs. The TV tour
begins in the Park Ridge and follows I-90 and the historic Northwest
Highway through communities such as Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect, Elk
Grove Village, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Hoffman
Estates, Barrington and Crystal Lake, concluding in far northwest
suburban Woodstock. We also take a side trip along the route of a long
forgotten steam railroad from Palatine through Lake Zurich to
Wauconda.
People, places and stories to be featured include:
• O'Hare airport, named for a downed WWII flying ace whose father was
in business with Al Capone
• Hillary Clinton's early days in Park Ridge
• Harrison Ford's Northwest Suburban roots
• Arlington Park Racetrack
• The man who started what is today the Daily Herald with $275 and a
hand-operated printing press
• The world's biggest public display of Hummel figurines, including
one valued at more than $20,000.
• McDonald's Store #1 in Des Plaines
• The world's first handheld cell phone and other innovations at
Motorola headquarters in Schaumburg
• Medieval jousting matches
• The invention of the Weber Grill
• A herd of elk in Elk Grove Village
• Vintage steam trains and trolleys at the Illinois Railway Museum
• Historic and modern architectural gems
• A famous singing cowboy who became the mayor of Schaumburg.
• Historic movie palaces in Park Ridge (the Pickwick) and Barrington
(the Catlow).
• One of America's largest churches, located in tiny South Barrington
• Baby Face Nelson who met his end in a shootout in Barrington
• Dick Tracy and his creator Chester Gould of Woodstock
• Woodstock's historic Opera House where Orson Welles and Paul Newman
got their starts in show biz!
i presume there will be a method to make a purchase...
likely it will be available at http://www.shopwttw.com/
