Bob,
Ehrsen was part of Ehrsen-Breden, now part of the city Bad Salzuflen.
I am not really sure, if the village belonged at that time to the parish
in Salzuflen. It also could have belonged to Schoetmar or Lockhausen.
On Monday (tomorrow) I have to call the church archive in Detmold
anyway. Then I can answer your question about death records.
Are you really sure, that your ancestor went to Ehrsen to die? Remember,
in the Principality of Lippe many farmers had besides their farm another
occupation, mostly they went as travelling journeymen from village
to village visiting their customers. The Principality Lippe had a special
law caller "Wanderordnung" with rules, where and when such travelling
journeymen could stay during the nights and where they got food.
Only by the way, in the middle of the last century more than half of
the men from Lippe, who were able to work, went during the summer
months as brick-makers to the north of Germany, to the Netherlands or to
Denmark, because there they could earn good money. They did so, although
most of them had another occupation. During the summer the women had to take
care for the farms. The Principality Lippe was not a very rich country.
This only by the way.
Have you checked, if other family members lived in Ehrsen? Maybe he
just visited them when he died or he stayed there because of another
reason. I do not know.
By any chance, did you come across researching your Freitag line with
Freitags from the Principality Schaumburg, village Welsede? My Freitag
line is originated from this village and it is not far from Lippe.
Regards
Angelika Beck
