Our Chicago and NOrthwestern Historical Society records depository is
located in Berwyn, Illinois (the best rent) but is not open to the public
for research.
Do feel free to tell your "Rootsweb" subscribers that we do C&NW employee
searches at no cost as long as the asker gives us general dates and PLACES
of employment along with type of job.
I would be happy for you to send out my e-mail address with the statement
that I will try to answer railroad related questions.
Do also tell your subscribers that the February 2002 issue of the MODEL
RAILROADER magazine carries a listing of all the many ralroad historical
societies in existence in the US.
People interested in a specific railroad should check there.
Many have web sites. Railroad historical society web site links can also be
found at the web site <www.trainsmag.com>.
You might also want to give out the web site of <www.cnwhs.org>, the web
site of our Chicago and Northwestern Historical Society.

My note: The most important item that the CNW archives has is the original
registration card for SOCIAL SECURITY. It shows pareentage, birthplace,
date, official name, job description..... So if you have someone in your
group that worked for CNW, then this is a very early Christmas Present for
you!
