Will County was formed from Cook and Iroquois Counties in
Illinois. It was established 12 January 1836 and is located in
northeastern Illinois, south of Cook County. Will County received its
name from Conrad Will, a prominent pioneer politician and member of
the first Constitutional Convention of 1818. The county seat is in
Joliet, Illinois located approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago.
