Henry Schirding,
Justice of the Pease
was born in Germany in 1824,
son of J H and Catherine Schirding.
He came to America in 1837 with his parents
who locatedhin Chicago for two years.
In 1839, they removed to Schaumburg, Cook County, Locating on a farm where
the father of the subject Henry Schirding, still lives, ninety years of age.
On attaining his majority, Mr Schirding engaged in farming,
on Section 21 T 42 Range 10, where he resided until 1864
when he removed to Palatine.
He was elected Justice of the Peace at the first election helf at the
organization of the township in 1851 and has held that office fort 32
consecutive years.
He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Palatine, having held that
position for ten years.
He was married in 1847 to Miss Rebecca Slade, daughter of John and Betsy
Slade.
They have 6 children, three of who are now living - John H, Mary J and
Sarah.
Mrs. Schirding died in 1867.
He was married in 1868 to Miss Henrietta Matthei, daughter of Henry and
Sophia Matthei.
They have had four children, three now living - William, Tillie and Alma.
He is a member of the Union Evangelical Church and of the Masonic fraternity
AF&AM.
For 35 years he was an auctioneer of farm stock and for 12 years was
engaged in the mercantile business.
Marked success has attended his business efforts, having accumulated a large
property, which he now enjoys.
