If possible, we would like the history of of the "First M. E. Church, (we presumed this was the Methodist Episcopal Church) and the First United Methodist Church, Cairo, Alexander, Illinois. We don't know if these were the same church or what.
We know that our 4x great grandmother (Lydia) Margaret Hartman Smith attended the First M. E. Church until 1916, in Cairo, when her family lost her. So, we would like the history of this church through 1916. The Daniel Harman family moved to Cairo, in 1854, so this family was long time residents and learning about the history of the churches they attended would be great.
We know that her daughter Lizzie (Leah) Smith married Albert Livings at the First United Methodist Church, Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois, in 1877. It would be neat learn about the church that Albert and Lizzie were married in.
Also, we would appreciate photos or sketches of these churches and where they were located in Cairo, in the years I have mentioned. This may be a impossible request, because the churches were built so long ago.
Thank you for your help,
Mary Boudreau
