Below is from a longer family history written or dictated by Adam Badgley or
maybe his brother Elijah.in 1890. They both lived into their 80 and 90's
respectively. The family came very early to St. Clair County. Below is the
part that mentions Montgomery Co. and Bond Lake.

In any case the writer was getting very old when he wrote this so I can't
vouch for the accuracy of the geography or names. His memory was still
clearer than mine.

It is mostly about early St. Clair descendants of Rev. David Badgley. It can
be found in Vol. 1 of the Worl d Family Tree (Tree #4967 search using
Badgley, Family History) (Family Tree Ma ker) Genealogy Program) among other
places.

>>Mary, oldest daughter of Rev. David Badgley, born in Hardy Co. Va., came to
this country with her parents. She married Pemira Hand and they settled on a
piece of land that her father gave them, where Marion Badgley now lives.
They raised a family of 2 boys and 7 girls. They sold their place and moved
to Green Co., Ill. Both died near Greenville. They owned a good farm at their
death, seemed to live honest and upright, seemed to be rather a bad manager.
Two of the girls went to Texas and one to Calif. and what has become of the
family God only knows. They all disappeared from this part of the country.
Nmes of their children- Soleman, Rachel, Rebecca, Stephen, Rhoda, Sarah,
Persilla, Milla and Terinda.
Betsy, second daughter of Rev. David came to this country with her parents
from Va. in 1797. Married 3 times, first time to a man of name Starr, they
had one son. He [Starr] died then she married Titsworth. He died then she
married one Poel Smith, had one daughter by him. Her two {?} sons lived and
died in Montgomery Co., Ill. One of her grandsons is county surveyor of
Montgomery Co. and lives at Litchfield, Ill.
Rachel, third daughter of Rev. David Badgley. She came to this country with
her parents. She married Daniel Starr, they raised a family of 6, three boys
and 3 girls; they lived on a place in Monroe Co. Near Bonds Lake. He was a
farmer, but they lived only to be about 60 years old. Their youngest son
Daniel married and moved to Texas and died there, his widow is still living,
she stays with her son Burton. Names of Rachels children- Pemira married
Crosia Tuning, Henry married Betsy Narkow, Daniel married Angeline Lenecy,
Polly married Philippe Penn, Catherine married 3 times, last one by name of
Malone. Rhoda married 3 time , last one by name of Rhily. <<
I don't have any more about the above people.

My ancestor connected to the Badgleys is Solomon Spann who first married
Emily Badgley and was in St. Clair, she died then he married Clarissa
Whitlatch.and lived in Perry Co. Even though he was in his late 50's and had
a newborn he joined the
13th Calvary and soon died in the Civil War. At some point they moved to
Franklin Co. ~Paula~

SMITH, BADGLEY, STARR, TITSWORTH. Does anybody know anything about
Elizabeth Badgley Starr Titsworth Smith (Badgley was her maiden name and
Smith was her third marriage) married to Joel Smith in Bond CO some time
before 1818? Joel Smith is supposed to have bought a salt works in Bond
CO and the couple lived there for a few years. In 1818 Elizabeth
removed to Montgomery CO---I don't know whether Joel Smith died or they
parted or what. During their residence in Bond CO their household
probably included Elizabeth's children from previous marriages: David
Badgley Starr and Ezekiel Titsworth, that I know of, although perhaps
there were others, and I know she had at least one child with Joel
Smith, Wiley B. Smith. Do you recognize any of these folks? Or know
anything about an early salt works? If so please get in touch. Thanks,
Nora Tocus<<
