Dick,
Thanks for the reply. I will check the St. Clair County census. The
family (Avery and Nancy Couch) was in Monroe County in 1850, then St.
Clair, then I think the family split up. Some went to Missouri and
Arkansas. Some either stayed in Illinois or later came back to Illinois. I
recently learned that there is a marriage record in 1864 in St. Louis for
John Taylor to Sarah Couch. They may be the couple who appears in the 1870
Bond County census (Sarah may be the daughter of Avery and Nancy). I had
thought that Nancy (wife of Avery) probably died in the 1850's, as Avery
remarried in Missouri about 1856, but now suspect that he may have divorced
or deserted Nancy, and that she may be the Nancy Couch in the 1870 census
of Bond County in the John and Sarah Taylor household. Avery's son, Henry
Couch, evidently moved back to Bond County from Arkansas in the 1870's, as
he was married (for the fourth time) in Bond County in 1870's, and appears
in the 1880 Bond County census. Two of his daughters were married in Bond
County (in the 1880's, as I remember).
I'm looking for the Township in Bond County where John and Sarah Taylor,
along with Nancy Couch, were listed in the 1870 census. I know that they
were in Bond County (I saw them in a printed copy of the 1870 Bond County
census).
Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my query.
