Anna Shaffer (1814-1885) owned property in Bond, Madison and Macoupin
Counties. She married John Hockett in Fayette County in 1831. Her
children were William Williford, John W. Hockett, James, Hockett, Oliver,
Peter Jerome, Rebecca, Foriner and Laura. Her second marriage was to Simon
Morse in 1854. She divorced him in 1864. Two sons from this union are
Ferdinand and Charles.
Many of her children are included in the book "A History of BondCounty, IL"
1979. I descend from Anna's sister Eliza Jane Shaffer who married William
McCurley and then Samuel Joy. She lived in Bond County for a time and many
of her descendents as well as Anna's are buried in Campground Cemetery
south of Greenville. Would like to share info especially with anyone who
could help me with the initials her father Peter sometimes used (DOHP and
DOAP).
