Caroline,
If you care to share your descendant chart on John Gilmore it may help
us help you. Did your Matthew Gilmore also move to Bond Co. IL? If
not, where did he raise his family? Who were his children? If there is
a male child's name that repeats for both lines, you may have a good
lead to the father (or grandfather) of Judge John and Matthew.
Also, how early was Judge John Gilmore in Bond Co?. The boundaries
changed early in Bond Co. and if he was there early enough he may have
either started out or ended up in another county without moving and inch.
Your Judge John Gilmore is of an age to have had a Revolutionary War
Soldier for a father or uncle. Sometimes the movement of the family can
suggest where the elder generation served from since soldiers from
different states were given land warrants in different places.
If you have the dates of the marriages of Judge John and his siblings,
that might suggest in which state to look for the parents.
Eleanor and John are the only two Gilmores of their generation who
appear on the 1850 Bond Co. Census.
Gilmore Catharine ILLS 15 412b 31 781
Gilmore Elanor Virginia 76 378b 31 256
Gilmore Eliza Illinois 16 378b 35 257
Gilmore Elizabeth G Ky 38 412b 29 781
Gilmore Elizabeth J ILLS 4/12 412b 36 781
Gilmore Franklin L ILLS 8 412b 34 781
Gilmore Hambleton L ILLS 19 412b 30 781
Gilmore Isaac A ILLS 13 412b 32 781
Gilmore James Mc ILLS 21 378b 32 256
Gilmore John North Car 78 378b 30 256
Gilmore John F Illinois 19 378b 34 257
Gilmore John M Ky 41 412b 28 781
Gilmore Margaret E Illinois 2/30 378b 36 257
Gilmore William ILLS 11 412b 33 781
Gilmore Winfield S ILLS 3 412b 35 781
If Elizabeth and John M of the next generation are children of Judge
John and Eleanor, it suggests that the family was in KY during the span
of their birth years. One reason people went to KY is because VA Rev.
War Vets received land there.

I am so excited because I just discovered yesterday that he went to Bond County Il. and when I checked your website site found several tidbits of info. on him! I am hoping to find out who Judge John Gilmore's parents were. Judge John Gilmore's brother Matthew is my direct line and I've been at such a brick wall, decided to branch out and research the siblings lines in hopes of a break through, and it's interesting to find out about the rest of the family. I will be most happy to share anything that I have and would just love ANY old scrap of information that anyone else can tell me!!!! Judge John Gilmore
