You are right on the census being 1920. Sorry about
that. But.........there is a question here. Based on the SSDI info above,
He must have been John Henry Jr. His father was born in 1868, which made
his age of 52 in the census OK.

In the 1930 census, John H Nowlan, age 36 (fits SSDI age) is in the home of
Clarence Jorn in Chouteau Twp of Madison County. He is listed as a
brother-in-law. Jorn's wife Nolia, 31, is listed as a daughter of the
older John. As such, I take it Nolia and John are siblings.

In the 1900 census, John Sr was in Pleasant Mound Twp Bond County. Junior
is listed as Henry, b July 1893, Nolia February 1898.

I can't come up with any proof of a prior family for John Junior, except
for the word of mouth information in the neighborhood that came up after he
and Ila were married.
