Hi Dan,
We'll, you certainly have given me a lot to think
about! Thanks so much for providing me with the
information you sent me on the BURTONS in Boone Co. It
has been very helpful!
You are right about Nathan and Nancy's first four
children - they were all probably born in New York.
When it came down to my GG-Grandfather, Charles W., I
was always unclear exactly where he was born. Charles
eventually married and moved to Pendleton, OR. The 1900
census for Pendleton listed Charles' birthplace as New
York(?). Another record that I obtained was a Delayed
Birth Record that belonged to my Great-Grandmother,
Martha (one of Charles W. daughters). The birth record
asks for Charles W. place of birth, and it states it as
being Garden Prairie, Illinois (I'm assuming this must
be near the Bonn Township). So, I decided to go looking
for him there first. However, with the information that
you have just provided, I am more than convinced that he
and the sister born after him (Adelaide) were also born
in New York with their older siblings. That would, in
fact, leave only Frederick as being born in Illinois.
Now, the question is: Where in New York were they all
born??? My next challenge, I guess.
I appreciate the information that you sent on Hiram
(Hyram) as well. I was aware of him, and have been
wondering if there couldn't be some connection between
him and Nathan. The one thing that I didn't know about
Hiram is that he was also born in Vermont (as was
Nathan) and that some of his children were also born in
New York. Makes me think that there must be a
connection now between these two. So, I really
appreciate the additional information that you provided
about Hiram.
Not sure what to think about Jacob Barton/Burton. But,
it is interesting that there is some simualarity in
names and places of origin. I will have to keep him in
mind as I continue my research.
Thanks again for being so helpful! It was a very
unexpected, yet welcomed surprise!
