Hi Beverly,
Township 1N, Range 5E is not in Clay Co -- it's just to the south in Wayne
Co, IL. If you click on the "Maps" section of the webpage and scroll down,
you'll see that Clay co starts half way through Township 2N (That's what the
T2N along the side means). Range 5E (R5E on my map) shows that it is the
western most range in Clay Co (or Wayne Co).
